Heart Under Siege: The Hidden Threat of Lipoprotein (a)

Project Details

2025
Audience: general public
Programs: Procreate, Adobe Indesign, Cinema4D, After Effects, Adobe Substance Painter, ElevenLabs

Description

An educational animation created for client that explains the mechanism of disease for lipoprotein(a) (LPa). The goal of this animation is to raise awareness about LPa, the dangers surrounding it, and how the viewer might be able to qualify to enroll in a clinical study.

My Roles:

  • Research

  • Storyboarding

  • Asset Creation

  • Animation

Process

The process first started out with research after receiving the client's script. After the mood board and concept art were determined, the project was broken up into two phases - a pre-production phase and a production phase.

Pre-Production

Based on the mood board and concept art from my team, I drafted a section of the story board using Procreate and Adobe Indesign. These frames demonstrate the difference between LDL and LPa as well as the statistics of people with LPa.

Production

Asset Creation

The production phase consisted of asset creation, animation, lighting, and materials. During production, each team member was assigned a scene to work on. For the assets in my scene, I modeled and sculpted the epithelial cells on the blood vessel walls and modeled the LPa molecule. For the LPa molecule, I imported molecular structures using PBD and Mol* (Star).

Animation

In the animation phase, I animated the scene that highlighted LPa and its molecular structure. I also worked on another scene with team member Kassandra Baker to demonstrate how higher levels of LPa can contribute to heart disease. Early stages representing atherogenesis and thrombosis in the blood vessel is seen below.

After animation, the lighting and materials were created and applied by team member Madison Taylor and project lead McKenzie Dulmes. McKenzie finalized the animation in post-production and created AI voice narration using ElevenLabs.
